Cisco 675/678 Configuration Information for CAP using a Macintosh

Here are the commands that need to be put into the Cisco 675 to set various modes for our customers. Right now we will only set them to Bridging mode, PPP mode with dynamic IP and NAT/DHCP, or PPP mode with static IP/subnet. We will not do config of their firewall or anything else.

NOTE: The set web disable and set web port 8888 lines are needed to avoid router crashes due to a web interface bug/exploit. Upgrading to the latest version of the CBOS will also fix this bug.

Before the router can be configured, a terminal interface will need to be opened to communicate with the Cisco. Please refer to the documentation from Qwest for instructions on opening a connection to the router. With a Macintosh, special software and an adapter may be necessary to complete this connection.

NOTE: The password you will enter doesn't need to be valid do to NAS port authentication but the cisco will require a password. For more information about NAS port authentication review the relate article below.

NOTE: If the Cisco prompts to \"write\" at any point during the config, please type \"write\" then press enter before proceeding to the next line.

bridging mode:

enable
set nvram erase
write
reboot

enable
set bridging rfc1483 enable
set web disable
set web port 8888
write
reboot

ppp dynamic and single static with nat

enable
set nvram erase
write
reboot

enable
set ppp wan0-0 ipcp 0.0.0.0
set ppp wan0-0 login username@frii.com
set ppp wan0-0 pass password
set ppp restart enable
set nat enable
set web disable
set web port 8888
write
reboot

Their tcp/ip under the control panels in the apple menu needs to be configured like this:

DSLpppMac.gif

ppp single static or with routed subnet

enable
set nvram erase
write
reboot

enable
set ppp wan0-0 ipcp 0.0.0.0
set ppp wan0-0 login username@frii.com
set ppp wan0-0 pass password
set ppp restart enable
set int eth0 address ip address
set int eth0 masknetmask
set nat enable
set web disable
set web port 8888
write
reboot

* If they are using CBOS 2.3 or above, with a routed subnet, they will need to add the line \"set ppp default disabled\" after they type the set web port 8888 command. \"set ppp default disabled\" does not appear to work on the latest versions of the CBOS. We have not been able to obtain a new command, though the command may no longer be needed.

Their tcp/ip under the control panels in the apple menu needs to be configured like this for ppp with a routed subnet. The customer should know what ip address they chose for the router/gateway (their Cisco 675 is the gateway). The customer can then choose any of the remaining ips for his/her machine. The subnet address will be 255.255.255.x depending on how large of a routed sunbet they purchased.

  • IP Subnet (8) = 255.255.255.248
  • IP Subnet (16) = 255.255.255.240
  • IP Subnet (32) = 255.255.255.224
  • IP Subnet (64) = 255.255.255.192
  • IP Subnet (128) = 255.255.255.128
  • IP Subnet (256) = 255.255.255.0
